In Which Region do you Offer your Services?
We primarily serve Gatineau and its surrounding areas (Aylmer, Hull, Buckingham, Masson, Angers, L’Ange-Gardien, Val-des-Monts, Cantley, Chelsea, Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette, Val-des-Bois, Thurso). For special requests outside of our usual area, please contact us and we will see if we can meet your needs.
What is the Difference Between a Standard Heating System and a Heat Pump?
A heat pump operates differently from a traditional heating system. The differences are as follows:
- Heat pump: Provides both heating in winter and cooling in summer. It works by extracting heat from the outside air to warm your home.
- Electric or gas furnace: Designed solely to heat the air. It can be paired with a heat pump for improved efficiency.
Heat pumps are often more energy-efficient and help reduce your electricity bill over the long term.
Do you Install Water Heaters?
Yes, we can install a water heater, but only when it is combined with a heating or heat pump system installation. This approach helps optimize costs and ensures a complete and efficient installation.
What is the Average Lifespan of a Heat Pump?
A well-maintained heat pump can last between 10 and 15 years. Regular maintenance plays a key role in its longevity.
Why Choose a Heat Pump Instead of a Wall-Mounted Air Conditioner?
A heat pump is a versatile solution that both heats and cools your home, unlike a wall-mounted air-conditioner that only cools the air. Here are some reasons why a heat pump is often the better choice:
✔ Heating and air-conditioning in one unit ‒ Enjoy optimal comfort year-round, regardless of the season.
✔ Superior energy efficiency ‒ A heat pump consumes less energy than electric heating or an oil furnace, which can lower your electricity bill.
✔ Available incentives ‒ Hydro-Quebec’s LogisVert Efficient Homes Program provides financial assistance for the installation of an energy-efficient heat pump.
✔ Improved indoor air quality ‒ Unlike some air-conditioners, a modern heat pump can filter and dehumidify the air, thereby enhancing indoor air quality.
✔ Increased property value ‒ An efficient heating and air-conditioning system is an asset if you plan to sell your property.
How Do I Know if my Heat Pump Needs to be Replaced?
You should consider replacing your system if:
✔ Your system is over 15 years old ‒ Over time, components wear out and energy efficiency decreases. Moreover, it becomes more difficult to find replacement parts that are no longer manufactured, which can complicate repairs and lead to higher costs.
✔ It frequently requires repairs ‒ When repair costs become too high, replacement is often more advantageous.
✔ Its performance has declined ‒ It heats or cools less effectively than before, despite regular maintenance.
✔ Your system uses R-22 refrigerant ‒ This refrigerant is now banned in Canada due to its environmental impact. If your unit is still functional and shows no issues, replacement is not mandatory. However, if there is a leak or a breakdown requiring repair, we cannot recharge or replace R-22, as its production and importation are prohibited. If your system still uses this refrigerant, it is strongly recommended to plan its replacement with a newer model using an eco-friendly refrigerant like R-410A or R-32, to avoid unexpected costs and service interruptions.
Are Oil Heating Systems Still Allowed in Quebec and Gatineau?
In recent years, governments have implemented strict restrictions on oil heating systems due to their high environmental impact.
Regulations in effect in Quebec
✔ Since December 31, 2023, it is prohibited to install a new heating oil system in residential buildings.
✔ Since December 31, 2024, using a heating oil system as the primary heating in an existing building has been banned.
✔ Homeowners are encouraged to replace their oil system with a heat pump or electric system to reduce their carbon footprint and benefit from government subsidies.
Specifics in Gatineau
✔ The city of Gatineau follows the same regulations as the Quebec government. It is advisable to replace your oil system as soon as possible to avoid future compliance issues.
✔ Hydro-Quebec and several government programs offer financial incentives to help homeowners transition to more eco-friendly and economical heating systems.
💡 If you have an oil heating system, please note that a government program offers financial assistance for converting to a more environmentally friendly heating option.
✔ Chauffez Vert program in Quebec: Up to $1,275 for replacing a light oil central system in a single-family home.
Do you Install Air Exchangers?
Yes, we install air exchangers, but only if the ducts are already in place.
How Often Should I Have my Air-Conditioner or Heat Pump Serviced?
A biannual maintenance service is recommended to ensure proper functioning and to prevent any loss of efficiency.
